CSV import shows nothing (or skips everything)

Why an import preview comes up empty, and the format rules that matter.

Written by the Axel Tracker team · Updated August 14, 2026

Preview empty → format mismatch

The importer accepts the MetaTrader 5 “Closed Trades Report” with its original header row. If the preview shows no importable rows, the file is almost certainly:

  • an export from another platform (different columns), or
  • a hand-edited spreadsheet whose header no longer matches, or
  • a CSV that was exported from Axel (the export format is for your archives, not a re-import format).

Fix: re-export the report from MT5 and import that file untouched.

Rows flagged as duplicates

That’s the importer doing its job: those trades are already in your journal (recognized by order number). Re-importing an overlapping period is safe precisely because of this.

Weird characters in notes

Save the CSV as UTF-8 if your broker export used another encoding — the trades import either way; only accented text is affected.

The no-CSV alternative

If you import often, set up Auto-Sync once and never export a report again.
