Screen lock: ask for a code before Axel opens
Turn on a 4-digit code on this device — and what to do if you forget it.
The screen lock asks for a 4-digit code before Axel opens on this device. It is optional and off by default.
What it does, and what it doesn’t. It hides your journal from someone walking past your screen. It is not encryption, and it does not protect your account — your password remains the only real protection. Think of it as a curtain, not a safe.
Turning it on
- Profile menu (bottom of the sidebar) → Settings → Security.
- Under Screen lock, type a 4-digit code.
- Turn on code. Done — you’ll be asked for it next time Axel opens.
Codes that are too easy to guess (0000, 1234, 1111…) are refused: they would give a false sense of protection.
Changing or turning it off
Same place. You must type your current code to change it or to turn it off. That is deliberate: without it, anyone sitting at your unlocked machine could set a code and lock you out.
If you forget your code
You are never locked out, and you never need to contact us. On the lock screen:
- Click “Forgot your code?” — it is always available, even right after several wrong attempts.
- The code is removed from this device and you are signed out.
- Sign in again with your usual password (or “Continue with Google”).
Nothing is deleted. All your accounts, trades and notes are exactly as you left them. You can set a new code afterwards if you want one.
We cannot reset the code for you — and that is on purpose. It never leaves your device: it is stored only as a cryptographic fingerprint on this browser, never sent to our servers and never included in your backup. There is nothing for support to look up.
Good to know
- It is per device. The code is not synced. Setting one on your computer does not lock your phone, and vice versa.
- It is asked at every opening, including after a page refresh.
- After several wrong attempts, a short wait is added before the next try. It never locks permanently, and your data is never erased. “Forgot your code?” keeps working during that wait.
- Clearing your browser data also removes the code — the app then opens normally.
- The option needs a secure (HTTPS) connection. On
axeltracker.comthat is always the case.
